Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of The Trader Journal ("we", "us", "the app"). By creating an account or using the app you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
1. Who can use the app
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into a binding contract in your jurisdiction. You are responsible for ensuring your use of the app complies with the laws that apply to you.
2. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure, for every action taken under your account, and for the accuracy of the information you provide. Notify us immediately at support@thetraderjournal.app if you believe your account has been compromised.
3. Subscription & billing
The Trader Journal is a paid subscription product. Pricing is displayed in the app before you subscribe. Subscriptions are billed in advance, recur automatically at the end of each period, and can be cancelled at any time from your App Store or Google Play account settings.
All payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their respective terms. Refunds are handled by those platforms, not by us, in accordance with their policies.
If a subscription is cancelled, you retain access until the end of the billing period you already paid for; after that, Pro features become unavailable but your historical data is preserved.
Free trial periods (when offered) convert to a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel before the trial ends.
4. Connecting your broker
When you link a brokerage account, the authentication happens between you and the broker via our data partner SnapTrade. We receive only read-only access to your trade data. We do not place orders, transfer funds, or access any other part of your account.
You remain solely responsible for your broker relationship, including compliance with your broker's terms of service and any applicable regulations. If your broker disconnects, changes its API, or refuses data access, we may be unable to sync your trades and are not liable for resulting gaps in your journal.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable regulation.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app.
- Abuse the service by overwhelming it with automated requests, scraping, or attempting unauthorised access.
- Impersonate another person, misrepresent your identity, or use an account that isn't yours.
- Resell, rent, or sublicense access to the app.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
6. Not financial advice
The Trader Journal is a trade journaling and analytics tool. It is not a broker-dealer, investment adviser, or financial institution. Nothing in the app, on this website, or in our emails constitutes investment, tax, or legal advice.
Statistics, win rates, grades, playbook performance, and any other computed metrics are based on data your broker sends us and reflect past performance. Past performance is not a guarantee of future results. You are solely responsible for the trading decisions you make.
7. Your content
Notes, tags, playbooks, and any other content you create in the app remain your property. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive licence to store, process, and display that content solely to provide the service to you. We do not use your content for any other purpose.
8. Our intellectual property
The app, its design, logos, source code, and documentation are owned by The Trader Journal and are protected by copyright and trademark laws. These terms do not grant you any rights to our intellectual property beyond the limited right to use the app in the ordinary way.
9. Service availability
We aim to keep the service available and accurate, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted operation. Scheduled maintenance, third-party outages (Convex, SnapTrade, Apple, Google, your broker), and unforeseen issues may occasionally prevent access or delay data sync.
10. Warranty disclaimer
The app is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including (but not limited to) warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that trade data synced from your broker will be complete, accurate, or timely.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Trader Journal and its owners, contractors, and affiliates are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost trading opportunities, loss of data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the app.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to these terms or the app is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the event that gave rise to the claim.
12. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless The Trader Journal and its affiliates from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the app, or your violation of any third-party rights or applicable law.
13. Termination
You may stop using the app at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these terms, if required to comply with a law or legal process, or if continuing to serve your account would pose a security or operational risk.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated by email to active users at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario, Canada, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms will be resolved in the courts of Toronto, Ontario, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
